Some engagement sessions are all about elaborate plans and carefully posed moments. Others are simply about spending time together, enjoying beautiful light, and letting things unfold naturally. Carly and Lex’s engagement session at Ravenswood Mansion in Brentwood, Tennessee, was exactly that kind of evening.
From the beginning, they wanted a session that felt relaxed and casual, and that is exactly what we set out to create. We spent the evening walking around the beautiful property, talking, laughing, and stopping whenever we found a pretty spot with gorgeous light.
The session flowed naturally, giving Carly and Lex plenty of room to be themselves and enjoy this special season of their relationship.
And honestly, those are some of my favorite sessions to photograph.

Ravenswood Mansion in Brentwood, TN, is such a beautiful setting for engagement photos. With its historic architecture, mature trees, and lovely outdoor spaces, it offers plenty of variety for couples who want photographs that feel timeless and romantic.
The property was especially busy during Carly and Lex’s session, but we were still able to find plenty of space to explore and create the photographs we envisioned. We moved around the grounds, followed the beautiful evening light, and took our time rather than feeling rushed from one location to the next.
One of the things I love about engagement photography is discovering those little pockets of light that make an image feel special. That evening, we had some truly beautiful light to work with, and it paired perfectly with the relaxed feel Carly and Lex wanted.
Even when a popular location is busy, there are often wonderful opportunities to create something beautiful. Sometimes it simply takes a little flexibility, a willingness to explore, and knowing when the light is just right.

Carly and Lex were such a joy to photograph. They had a wonderful natural chemistry, and it was easy to capture the connection between them without making the session feel overly posed.
We casually walked and talked throughout the evening, stopping here and there for portraits while allowing plenty of room for natural moments to happen. Their easygoing personalities and comfort with each other made the entire experience feel effortless.
This is one of the reasons we love a relaxed approach to engagement sessions. You don’t have to know how to pose or worry about what to do with your hands. We provide gentle direction when needed, but we also leave room for genuine interaction and those little in-between moments that often become favorites.
Our goal is always to create photographs that feel beautiful while still looking and feeling like you.

Carly and Lex have been dating for about a year, and their story began with an introduction through a relative.
Sometimes, the beginning of a relationship comes through the most unexpected connections. A simple introduction can open the door to something meaningful, eventually leading to a season like this one—celebrating an engagement and looking forward to a wedding day together.
Now, Carly and Lex are preparing for their next chapter, and we were so glad to spend part of this season with them at Ravenswood Mansion.

Carly and Lex will be getting married in the spring at The Palace at Riverbend, and we can only imagine how exciting it must be to see all the pieces of their wedding plans coming together.
After spending the evening with them, we’re especially happy that their engagement session gave them an opportunity to slow down, enjoy being together, and celebrate the season they’re in right now.
Engagement photos aren’t just about having beautiful images to share before the wedding. They’re also a chance to make memories along the way and have photographs that remind you what this part of your story felt like.
