Sarah & Michael’s Downtown Nashville Couples Session

Some couples have a story that begins with a grand romantic gesture. Sarah and Michael’s began a little more simply- with two friends who thought the four of them might enjoy spending time together.

Their friends, Kyle and Annie, were dating and decided to introduce them, thinking they would make a fun group of four. They weren’t necessarily trying to set up a love story. They simply thought everyone would have a good time together.

But from that first night, something felt different.

Sarah says it wasn’t exactly love at first sight, but they both knew there was something special there. And as I read how they describe their relationship, one word kept coming to mind: steadfast.

That quality seems to be at the heart of what makes Sarah and Michael’s relationship so meaningful.

A Beginning Built on Consistency

Michael remembers realizing Sarah was special very early on. About a week after they met, he was practicing his rehearsal dinner speech—and that’s when he began to realize just how special she was to him.

Sarah says Michael was very open about what he was thinking and feeling, which helped her feel secure in their relationship. Over time, it wasn’t simply one big romantic moment that made her fall in love with him. It was watching him consistently show up.

She saw his commitment not only to her, but also in the way he cared for the people around him.

His honesty. His loyalty. His devotion. His consistency.

Those things became the foundation of their relationship.

Sarah says she never has to wonder where she stands with Michael—and that kind of security is something worth celebrating.

Their Favorite Kind of Date Night

When life includes three kids and a calendar full of activities, uninterrupted time together becomes pretty special.

For Sarah and Michael, a favorite date night doesn’t have to be complicated. They enjoy finding a restaurant they’ve both wanted to try, grabbing a drink, and simply sitting together talking.

No elaborate plans.

Just good food, conversation, and time for the two of them.

And when they aren’t out for the evening, their downtime often looks a little more like home—movies with the kids, time with their dogs and cat, or a quiet Sunday on the couch watching football.

Sarah especially loves those slower Sundays.

After grocery shopping, she and Michael might spend the afternoon curled up on the couch with their pets and a football game on television. And when the kids are with them, Michael is often the one volunteering to grab groceries or inviting everyone to his parents’ house for a family meal so Sarah doesn’t have to cook.

It’s those ordinary moments that often become the most meaningful ones.

The One Who Starts the Dance Party

There was one question where Sarah and Michael were completely in agreement:

Sarah is the one most likely to start a spontaneous dance party.

Apparently, Michael has the actual dance skills, though.

His school didn’t have a gym, so he took ballroom dancing lessons. Sarah freely admits that she’s not the better dancer—but she absolutely enjoys herself when a favorite song comes on.

Michael is a little more serious about the dancing.

Sarah?

She’s there to have fun.

And honestly, that feels very fitting after seeing the two of them together. Their session was filled with those little moments that happen when two people are completely comfortable being themselves.

The laughing.

The silliness.

The quiet moments.

The dancing.

The kisses.

The way they naturally gravitate toward one another.

Those are the photographs I love most.

A Little Nostalgia

Music was another fun difference between them.

For Sarah, the nostalgia button is firmly connected to the 1990s and early 2000s.

For Michael, it’s The Beatles.

Put on the right song, and suddenly you’re back in another decade.

And that’s one of the things I love about photographing couples. A photograph doesn’t just preserve what people looked like on a particular day. Years from now, a song, a place, or even the way someone laughed can bring an entire season of life rushing back.

“I Love You” Came First

Michael was the first one to say “I love you.”

But Sarah says she was ready to say it too.

They were both waiting for that reassurance that the other person was feeling the same thing.

When Michael finally said it, Sarah says it was a relief—because now she could tell him every day.

And she does.

She wants him to know how loved he is, how special he is to her, and how grateful she is that God brought him into her life.

That part of Sarah’s answer really stood out to me.

Because underneath all the laughter and playfulness, there is a deep gratitude for the relationship they’ve built.

What They Admire Most About Each Other

When Michael talks about Sarah, he talks about her strength.

He admires how much she carries and how she finds a way to handle whatever life puts in front of her.

Sarah sees something equally powerful in Michael.

She describes him as steadfast—someone whose honesty, loyalty, devotion, and consistency haven’t changed since the day they met.

She admires the way he shows up not only as her partner, but as a caregiver, friend, son, and man.

She says his love feels secure, unwavering, and complete.

And maybe that’s what makes their story so special.

It’s not simply about the exciting moments.

It’s about the everyday ones.

Showing up.

Choosing each other.

Making dinner plans.

Watching football.

Laughing at something silly.

Helping with the kids.

Grabbing groceries.

Dancing when a favorite song comes on.

And finding a little time to simply be together.

A Downtown Nashville Session Full of Connection

For their Downtown Nashville couples session, we spent time walking through the park, talking, laughing, and letting the session unfold naturally. If you’re planning your own Nashville engagement photography session, we love creating that same relaxed environment where you can simply enjoy being together.

There were romantic moments, plenty of silliness, and lots of opportunities for Sarah and Michael to simply interact with one another instead of feeling like they had to constantly pose for the camera.

We photographed them walking together, sitting on the steps, enjoying the surrounding architecture and greenery, and sharing quiet moments together.

And, of course, there was dancing.

There was also a beautiful kiss in front of the fountain that felt very them—romantic without feeling overly posed.

That is one of the things I love most about photographing couples in Nashville.

The city gives us so many different textures in one session—green spaces, historic architecture, sidewalks, fountains, beautiful trees, and the energy of downtown—all while leaving plenty of room for a couple’s personalities to come through.

A Love Story in the Everyday

After reading Sarah and Michael answers to my questions, I kept coming back to something Sarah said about Michael’s consistency.

Their story isn’t built around one spectacular moment.

It’s built around hundreds of small ones.

The first night they met.

The conversations over dinner.

The family dinners.

The football Sundays.

The kids.

The pets.

The spontaneous dance parties.

The hard days.

The ordinary days.

And the decision to keep showing up for each other through all of it.

That’s the kind of love that deserves to be photographed.

Sarah and Michael, thank you for letting us spend an afternoon with you and for sharing a little piece of your story with us.

We hope these photographs always bring you back to this season of your life—and to all the laughter, love, and little moments that make your relationship yours.
